As I've met people on the campaign trail, people have asked me what sparked my interest in becoming a candidate. This article on how other prosecutors have addressed the overdose epidemic is what compelled me to run. Seeing the lack of prosecution in Johnson County compared to the rising number of deaths appalled me. In Douglas County, we've charged more overdose cases and had resounding success.
These cases are hard to prosecute. They're hard from a legal standpoint and they are hard on the families and attorneys who spend years working for justice. But nothing worth having ever came easy. I'm not afraid of a fight in the courtroom and I'll relentlessly fight to keep our community safe.
