ABOUT DAVID
WHERE I COME FROM
David was born and raised in Overland Park. After graduating from Shawnee Mission West High School, he attended the University of Kansas, graduating with degrees in political science and history. The law was a passion of his and he decided to attend the University of Miami School of Law, known for their strong trial advocacy program. From a young age he knew he wanted to be a prosecutor and he pursued that relentlessly while in law school, with internships in the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office for two summers and an internship in the Broward County State Attorney’s Office. After graduating from law school, David moved back to Overland Park and began his career as an attorney.

David is passionate about his hometown and his community. In addition to trying to keep his community safe through his work, he has worked hard to improve the community through philanthropy. He’s been a member of the YMCA Young Achievers Board, the KVC Young Advisory Board, served as the President of the Love Fund for Children Young Professionals board for three years, and currently serves as a board member for the Deanna Rose Farmstead’s Friends of the Farm.
When not at work, he loves to spend time with his beautiful wife and three amazing children.
A THRIVING CAREER
David began his career in prosecution in Topeka Municipal Court. Over the next two years, he specialized in prosecuting DUI cases before moving to the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office. As an Assistant District Attorney in Wyandotte County, he prosecuted everything from traffic tickets to murder cases at trial and on appeal. While there, he specialized in prosecuting gang cases, notably prosecuting members of the 8th Street Gang, the Travieso Gang, and the Sureno Por Vida Gang.

David joined the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office in 2019 to specialize in the prosecution of traffic crash cases and fatalities. In 2021, he joined the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office as a Senior Assistant District Attorney to focus on prosecuting fentanyl overdose cases. Over the last three years, David has successfully prosecuted numerous homicides, aggravated batteries, and nearly two dozen drug dealers whose victims overdosed and died from fentanyl.
In 2023, David presented to the Kansas County and District Attorney’s Association about prosecuting fentanyl overdose cases. He has also worked with the National District Attorney’s Association on updating their training materials and serve as an instructor for trial advocacy skills. As part of his role as a Senior Assistant District Attorney, David helps lead and manage a staff of attorneys, while also recruiting and supervising the office's intern program.

He believes that every person deserves equal protection under the law, regardless of their background or circumstances.
